It has been announced that the Washington State Supreme Court will rule on the marriage equality case tomorrow, Wednesday 7/26.
This has been reported in the major newspapers here in Seattle, as well as on 365gay.com. The Seattle Post-Intelligencer is reporting that the ruling should be available around 8am Pacific Time on the
court's website.
2 lower courts had ruled previously that the state could not deny marriage to GLBT couples. Previous rulings in the WA Supreme Court have been very favorable to GLBT persons & couples, so there is reason for hope.
As for the possibility of an attempt to amend the state constitution to prohibit marriage between GLBT persons, it is unlikely as the Washington Constitution is difficult to amend. It requires a 2/3 vote of both houses of the legislature, to be followed by a vote of the people. I do not believe it could ever get 2/3 in our legislature; actually, given that our House Speaker represents the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle (among others) I suspect he might not even allow it to come up for a vote.
