Update [2006-7-25 19:31:16 by darthstar]: #4 - Israel has demanded Kofi Annan apologise for his accusation...okay, it looks like this will be a non-issue before dinner.../a snark in snarkless times
Update [2006-7-25 19:22:54 by darthstar]: #3 - Israel, for their part, denies that this was intentional, saying they don't target UN observers. That's the official reaction, anyway.
Update [2006-7-25 19:7:53 by darthstar]: more info can be found here (as well as a further discussion)
MsLibrarian posted about this already
Breaking story on Leslie's show (Wolf Blitzer's Situation Room) on CNN...
UN Secretary General Kofi Annan said he was "shocked" at the "apparently deliberate targeting" of the post.
rules are rules...gotta jump to the next section now.
This is totally fucked, people. Annan's statement, if true, shows us just how far we are from peace in this thing...
one more clip from the story...
The UN in Lebanon says the Israeli air force destroyed the observer post, in which four military observers were sheltering.
It said the four, from Austria, Canada, China and Finland, had taken shelter in a bunker under the post after it was earlier shelled 14 times by Israeli artillery.
Sorry about the brevity of this post, but holy fucking shit, if the US lets this one go without so much as a 'you should be more careful' to Israel, then we will know that we're dealing with a very specific plan of which we, as a country, are a primary player...contrary to what the UN and the rest of the planet desire.
Update [2006-7-25 18:59:47 by darthstar]: - what does Bolton have to say? From the Sacramento Bee online:
"We're obviously very sorry," Boltin[sic] said. "We're attempting to get information where we can to confirm the nature of the incident."
We're sorry? You're supposed to be on the UN's side, you stupid fuck.
