So, today was the first day of the NY Bar Exam. It was the local day. Five essay questions, 50 multiple choice, and one fiendish device known as the "Multi-State Performance Test" or MPT.
How did I do?
Hold your breath and take the plunge to find out!
First, I just want to say how very grateful I am for everyone on dKos who has wished me well, commiserated, shared funny stories, or given me words of wisdom. I would thank you all individually, but, honestly, I know I would forget someone (since my brain is full of various rules and exceptions to rules), and I'd hate to do that. So, a general thank you.
Now, on with the gorey details.
I think I did alright on the multiple choice. NY multiple choice are notoriously nit-picky, but I think I hit my goal for passing.
The essays are another matter altogether. I know I got some things wrong (I looked them up when I got home). I know I missed some things (I was crunched for time because I hand-write things very slowly). They say you need a 4.5 out of a possible 10 to pass. I think I MIGHT have made that.
The MPT was a train wreck. For those of you who don't know, the MPT is a "skills" test. They give you made up law (so you don't have to remember anything) and a set of facts, and then ask you to write a certain document. This time, it was a memo of law laying out claims and defenses and whatnot. I think I got most of what I needed to get, but I was so horribly crunched for time (again, slow writer) that I have a fear I missed or mangled something.
Oh well. Too late now.
Anyway, tomorrow is the Multi-State Bar Exam (MBE). It's a multiple choice test on "prevailing American law." That basically means the law that a majority of jurisdictions use. I've done pretty well on this portion of the exam in practice sessions, so I'm hoping to make up any ground that I lost on the essays.
In any event, I just wanted to keep y'all in the loop. Thanks again to those of you who've wished me well. To those of you have wished me ill, please stop. Seriously. You've done enough, thank you.
If you stop, there may be a kitten in it for you.
Good luck to all those who are taking bar exams!
