Yes, it's been a dismal couple of weeks. Bad news seems to leap off the front pages and hit us square in the eye. But you knew that the sun would rise again and birds would sing and the trumpets would sound and the good news we all were hoping for would come at last, didn't you? So wait no longer, friends ... the good news is here! In the second quarter of 2006, the ExxonMobil Oil Company made a profit of more than ten billion dollars.
According to MSN's Money Central, ExxonMobil reported that the oil company earned a profit of $10.36 billion in the months of April, May, and June of this year, up from a mere $7.64 billion in the second quarter of 2005. To put those head-spinning numbers into some kind of perspective, in the past three months of this year Exxon earned $114 million a day, $79,000 per minute, or $1,300 each and every second of each and every day.
Thank goodness the sacrifice of all of us who are paying more than $3 a gallon -- not to mention those 2,600 young folks who won't have to worry about gas prices ever again -- has been worth it!
