Dear Green Party Supporter:
Please forgive my bluntness, but you are being used.
Republicans all over the country are funding Green Party candidates in the hopes of draining off votes that would otherwise go to Democrats.
Perhaps you are thinking that there is no difference between Republicans and Democrats, but ponder for a moment the statement of the Chair of the Senate's Environment and Public Works Committee: "man-made global warming is the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people."
No Democrat that I know of has said anything quite that outrageous. Perhaps some of them don't go far enough on fuel efficiency. Maybe some of them support off shore oil drilling. Maybe some of them support the chemical industry.
But generally, the Democratic Party is going to take us to a better place. The Republicans have many choices for Chair of the committee that controls legislation about the Environment and they choose Senator Inhofe. If the Democrats take control of the Senate, Max Baucus will likely be the Chair of the committee. I promise: there will be a completely different attitude in the Senate about global warming if Baucus is Chair.
Look, anyone who has no frustrations with the Democratic Party is not paying attention. But keeping the Republicans in office is leading us into a very bad (hot) place.
I am not suggesting that Green Party members abandon their strongly held principles. I am suggesting that this November, they recognize that voting Green is exactly what Senator Inhofe wants you to do because he is not threatened by Greens but by Democrats.
Find a way to support the Green Party without actually voting Green. There is way too much at stake.
