When considering a diary for the Katrina Blog Project, I thought at first I'd just do a video blog, filled with snippets and blurbs from the days and weeks after hurricane Katrina struck. There was one video in particular I remembered and wanted to add. I found it. And then I decided it should stand on its own.
(more after the jump...)
Like the majority of people here on dKos, I've been convinced that Shep Smith and Geraldo Rivera are tools. So imagine my surprise to see a moment of humanity and compassion from either one of them. Below is an 8 1/2 minute clip of Hannity and Colmes, taped on Sept 2, 2005. In this clip Geraldo Rivera is located at the convention center, and Shep Smith is broadcasting from an overpass on I-10.
I never in my life thought I'd link to video of a Fox News program.

John Amato of Crooks and Liars said it well--
Shepard Smith and Geraldo Rivera were livid about the situation in NOLA as they appeared on H&C. When Hannity tried his usual spin job and said "let's get this in perspective," Smith chopped him off at the knees and started yelling at him saying, "This is perspective!" It was shocking.
Some snippets from the exchange--
GERALDO RIVERA:
There is no earthly reason that these people are still here. Let them walk out, let them walk away from the devastation, let them walk away from the dead bodies. I saw FoxNews on Wednesday, and people were saying "Get me out" - two days later, they're still here.
Where are the buses? I've been here all day, and as far as I know, not one of them has been bussed out. I've got a baby - there's babies here - let them walk out.
SMITH:
They won't let them walk out because the govenment's locked them in - they said go in the Superdome and you'll get help, and they locked them in and watched them die.
COLMES:
I want to get some perspective here.
SMITH:
That's all the perspective you need.
RIVERA:
Take a look - I want everyone in the world to see - that six days after the hurricane, they're still here - look in the eyes of this baby - let them go, let them walk out of here....
