Update #1:
I just received a call from a lady out in New York who very kindly provided me with some advice on tip jar decorum. This is what the netroots is about: people communicating with other people across the country. At any rate, her tip, pun intended, was appreciated, and you can now find the tip jar in the comments.
Upon popular request, I've posted a mini-bio and intro:
Dr. Victoria Wulsin (aka Vic) is the Democratic candidate for Congress in Ohio's 2nd district (which consists of the suburbs and rural counties surrounding greater Cincinnati). She is running against Jean Schmidt who narrowly beat Paul Hackett last summer and who disgraced our district last November on the House floor by calling Jack Murtha a coward. Vic is a public health doctor- an epidemiologist, who has worked in post-genocide Rwanda, and Kenya fighting AIDS. She was born and raised in Ohio, and lives with her four sons and a dedicated husband, who is also a physician. Click here for a complete bio
Last weekend Vic and friend of the campaign, Paul Hackett renovated a dilapidated trailer for a disadvantaged family in Adams County, a rural county in our district. The renovation was a GREAT success, and we hope to duplicate the effort throughout the district, state, and maybe even the nation. Think Habitat for Humanity: organized and implemented by Democrats. Think grassroots community-building in the rural counties where our citizens are most vulnerable to the destructive economic policies of the Republican party. Read the following
blog entry for more details, pictures, and watch the video (
quicktime or
youtube to see what we accomplished).
HERE'S WHERE YOU CAN HELP!! Paul chipped in over $1,000 dollars of HIS OWN MONEY to buy materials. So please, if you can, send a check to the following:
Lend a Hand Ohio via Hackett Law Offices
1014 Vine Street, Suite 1690
Cincinnati, Ohio 45202
We've already received over $150 dollars, but we still have $850 to go! Your donation will contribute to the long-term success of this project!
Meanwhile, here are some other sundry points of interest:
-Howard Dean stopped by our office yesterday, where he had a meeting with Vic, from Democratic doctor to Democratic doctor.
-We in the Wulsin campaign are pleased at Ned Lamont's victory in the Connecticut primary. Ned was a college friend of Vic's, and we are excited to see him become the next Senator from Connecticut.
-Finally, I'd like to organize a Daily Kos livechat with Vic. We're doing one on August 19th at Firedog Lake. If you have any interest in doing one here, drop a friendly comment in the comments section, so we can get this thing going! I know that reading blogs from paid staffers can be wearying, so if the interest is there, I'd love for Vic to really engage the Kos community by answering your questions.
