Red Alert! Red Alert! Terra plot in Britain thwarted by our good friend, Sir Poodle. Thank God. Save the Queen. Tea, anyone?
While the timing is a little "interesting" given the recent developments in CT and the Republican machinery pushing the "Democrats will let your babies be killed by forners" meme, Democrats need to push back now and they need to push back hard.
Here are some suggestions of how we can show Americans that they will be safer under the Democrats. After all, these current jokers are the same incompetents who would rather vacation than protect and take care of America.
1.) Democrats should come out and say, "this is why we need to catch Osama." There's a reason the Republicans never talk about him. It's because they failed in this goal, just like they have failed at most everything they have tried to do. What part of "Dead or Alive!" am I missing?
2.) Democrats need to clarify their language. This is the framing part of the equation. Instead of "pulling out" of Iraq", we should talk about "redeploying to the perimeters" or "strategically relocating our troops." Instead of talking about "bringing our troops home," we need to talk about the different areas of the world where the US needs to be present, particulary in northern Africa.
3.) The Democrats should come up with a 10-point plan called "Protecting America." America already believes the Democrats will do a better job on domestic issues like health care, social security, education, etc. The one area that Democrats have to convince Americans is our ability to defend our nation. Let's put this one argument to rest for once and for all. We do that and the Republicans have absolutely nothing to run on.
4.) Promote the many military men and women who are running as Democrats. Webb and Sestak and Massa should be front and center. We should also work with the many military folks who have criticized that operations in Iraq. They may not be Democrats, but they are the experts and they seem to agree with us.
5.) Point out the incompetence of the current administration. While I always think it's better to show your own vision and plan, it doesn't hurt to remind people of your opponents weaknesses. And boy, this one has a boatload. Mission Accomplished? Duct tape? Al Qaeda determined to attack in US? We can also include the axis of evil of North Korea and Iran and how we underestimated Al Qaeda and overestimated Iraq.
Okay, those are my initial thoughts. Feel free to chime in with your suggestions on how we can show America they will be safer under a Democratic administration!
