The Washington Post editorial on August 10th extolling the benefits of an independant Lieberman run, jives quite nicely with the rest of the corporate media cabal that supported Joe. Even the WASHINGTONPOST-the rawhide leather of the beltway- have become sore losers, bucking the traditions of free elections and still supporting their beltway beneficiary despite the will of the masses. And let us not forget the unprecedented showing at the polls that came out to boot Joe offline. Under the deception of some sort of legitimate independant run, the WASHPOST still clings to Uncle Joe.
Dig this WASHPOST ditty:
"But the critical question facing voters in November, as opposed to party leaders now, is who would make the better senator -- which is why we welcome Mr. Lieberman's decision to remain in the race. He would be, by far, the better choice for the people of Connecticut".
The question facing voters now? As opposed to party leaders? Who's really writing this stuff? It sounds like Peggy Noonan. The question has been answered already-by the voters. The party leaders have no say. The voters chose Lamont. The primary is for internecine party battles on policy and Lieberman got his ass handed to him. Its a GIANT insult to him. Get it?
Who would make the better Senator? Huh? That's irrelevant since the voter-the people-are the arbiters on election day.
Are we to expect the same criticism of every displaced and disgraced incumbent the voters toss out? Liebermans support of the bankruptcy bill,SCALITO AND ROBERTS,the Schiavo case etc; was surely more than enuf to tick off the so called "irate moderates"(NYTIMES)and perhaps the IRAQ war was the catalyst; the last straw. Not a sliver of mention from the WASHPOST on these legitimate gripes. Just that hes the better man.Reads like a slap in the face to the election process by not honoring in any way, the sanctioned winner-LAMONT. Fair and square amounts to nothing in politics. Sore losers. They can join Joe. To worship BUSH and provide cover for the Re-thugs. Just as he has been doing.
Another rhinestone:
"We are not among those who differ substantially with Mr. Lieberman on Iraq, but we recognize the widespread anger over the conduct of the war and wish Mr.Lieberman had done a better job, earlier in the campaign, of articulating his position and emphasizing his differences with President Bush"
So, the WASHPOST still supports the bastard-illegal occupation of IRAQ since they differ so little from Liebermans position. How grand and expansive a view considering the deluge of disaster from top to bottom in this war. Just as Joe provides cover for the Rethugs by 69'ing monkey boy and supporting Iraq, he provides cover for himself, trolling out the Democratic bromides and initiatives he's "championed" in his Senate career. Didn't work in the end Jo-Joe. Sitting on the fence and wanting it both ways. Everyone on both sides has their asses covered.
They wish that Lieberman had done a better job of articulating his position? He couldn't articulate his position nor his record because he was getting ripped up by the backlash and LAMONT was all over him. As for the dubious assertion that ol Joe finally articulated his positions-thats nonsense. He was never on a roll and when you come up with gems like,"I'm not George Bush", I dont think he has a grasp of campaign fundamentals. He started in the 7th inning with his typical charm and handi wipe list of accomplishments. The arrogance of Joe-Joe brought him to the conclusion that he never needed a campaign team since he is so bedridden in WASH for so long and Conn loves him so much-who needs to worry about a campaign? Only an arrogant ass would ignore the whirlwind of antagonism his positions and behavior have caused and not acknowlege any of it.
All the heavy hitters in DLC-from BILL Clinton to Barbara Boxer couldn't put Humpty Joe-Joe back together. So desperate to keep their puppet, even Fox and the anti-christ Rove, floated support for the bewildered JOE-JOE. Even Tony Snowjob had an opinion that this represents some sort of death knell for the Democrats.
O....MY....GOD
How, the right is scared.
