With the recent developments regarding the foiled plot with Pakistani connections to blow up civilian airliners heading from Britain to the United States, I wonder why I didn't wake up to a bellicose calls from the republican party and Bush administration to widen the "War on Terror" to Pakistan? I mean Pakistan fits all the parameters of a terrorist sponsoring state worthy of American military intervention to ensure its own safety. For example Pakistan contains large areas of lawless regions that breed radical fundamental islamic beliefs and terroists, they have a nuclear weapon, they have spread nuclear technology to coutries that the U.S. has deemed threats, they harbor known terrorists such as Osama Bin Laden and Al Zawhiri within their own borders, but worst of all they have stripped the democratic political institutions in their country for the last decade. I mean its like North Korea, Iran, Iraq, and Afghanistan all balled up in one.
Where's the outrage, where's the U.N. resolutions, Where's the congressional resolution for use of force so Mr. Bush can have a heavier diplomatic hand and gain peace and security?
Ohh what's that Mr. Bush, What's that Mr. Mehlman? You mean we don't have to promote democracy around the world to defeat terrorist attacks on US soil, We don't have to maintain military forces in every lawless region, We don't have to kill or detain indefinitely every radical muslim...We do have to act on "tips" with due diligence and foresight? We do have to maintain relations with all governments even though they might not fit the American Enterprise government models...This so called "War on Terror" can be won by succesful coordination of federal law enforcement, foreign Intelligence assets, and state diplomacy...It would only cost how much? My god...
