Virginia House Republican Jo Ann Davis
is undermining our political leadership during a time of war, or something:
"I told my husband that when (Sen.) Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) came out and said he should resign, it's probably the only thing in my life I've ever agreed with Hillary Clinton about," said Davis, R-Gloucester.
"I've made no bones about it the last two years," Davis told members of the Hampton Roads Chapter of the American Society of Military Comptrollers on Thursday. "He's probably a nice guy, but I don't think he's a great secretary of defense."
Later she amended her "nice guy" assessment by saying Rumsfeld had come across as arrogant in her dealings with him, which stretch back to committee work during her freshman term in Congress, in 2001.
And so begins the mass exodus of Republicans, running against the Bush administration's failed policies.
First, it was immigration. Now, Iraq.
"I think if he had listened to Gen. (Eric) Shinseki in the beginning - I think Gen. Shinseki has been proven right. His argument with Secretary Rumsfeld was that we needed to have more troops, and he's right in my opinion."
...
"All of the intelligence we were given says we should be over there," she said. "If I had known that the intelligence they gave us wasn't correct, I don't know how I would have voted."
...
"I'm not for putting permanent bases there," she said. "As soon as we get enough (Iraqis) trained to take over their country, bring our babies home."
Not only does she think Rumsfeld should be replaced, she questions the correctness of her war vote knowing what she knows now. (She must be in a tough election fight.)
Of course, Rumsfeld has already offered to resign a number of times. The real call should be for President Bush to finally accept the offer and bring in someone who isn't a bumbling idiot.
