From The Washington
Post:
S.R. Sidarth, a senior at the University of Virginia [and natural born American citizen--Alex], had been trailing Allen with a video camera to document his travels and speeches for the Webb campaign. During a campaign speech Friday in Breaks, Virginia, near the Kentucky border, Allen singled out Sidarth and called him a word that sounded like "Macaca."
"This fellow here over here with the yellow shirt, Macaca, or whatever his name is. He's with my opponent. He's following us around everywhere. And it's just great. We're going to places all over Virginia, and he's having it on film and its great to have you here and you show it to your opponent because he's never been there and probably will never come."
(continued below the fold)
"Let's give a welcome to Macaca, here. Welcome to America and the real world of Virginia," said Allen...
The Post points out that Sidarth is not white, and that "Macaca" (or "Mukkakah" as I've also seen it phonetically reproduced) could refer to the macaque monkey or a town in South Africa. Allow me to point out that Sidarth is Indian-American, that the cow is the sacred animal of Hinduism, and that calling an Indian, Hindu or not, "Moo-caca" is pretty darn insulting and does not seem accidental.
Suffice it to say, for now, George Allen's prospects for president have dropped to an all-time low. He's now unlikely to have much at all to do with the 2008 presidential campaign if he can't get past his pattern of racism and racial insensitivity stretching from high school throughout his legal and political career. He may actually have to give it up!
He may not even be able to keep his Senate seat in a close race with former Reagan administration Navy Secretary Jim Webb.
UPDATE: A Japanese macaque escaped from the Mill Mountain Zoo near Roanoke last month. Inspiration?
