This
flyer shouldn't appear to be anything out of the ordinary, right? Just another flyer for a faux moderate Republican trying to get re-elected, right? I'm sure the SEIU was just PROUD to have endorsed the incumbent Congressman...
...Only there is one little problem, the SEIU Local 200United
endorsed Dan Maffei.
SEIU Local 200United President, Jerry Dennis, didn't just say he his union wasn't endorsing Walsh, he
eviscerated him!
"Contrary to whatever false piece of campaign literature is circulating around Central New York, Dan Maffei has received SEIU 200United's endorsement," said Jerry Dennis, President, SEIU 200United. "This country is heading in the wrong direction and we need a Congressman who doesn't simply rubber stamp the George Bush agenda. Jim Walsh is wrong on our issues. He voted against a minimum wage increase. He voted for Bush budgets that cut education funding and Medicare and he supported George Bush's attempt to privatize Social Security. We need new leadership in Congress, and I strongly support Dan Maffei's candidacy."
Walsh is certainly vulnerable in this election cycle. A contrast from 2004, when he didn't even have a Democratic challenger. With exception to his 1996 re-election, when he only won55%-45% he has not faced a serious challenger. This year, however, it is seen as a competitive race. THe National Journal ranks this race as the 39th most competitive ahead of NY-29! Meanwhile, the Cook Political Report ranks it as likely Republican and while Cook has it pegged lower than NY-29, he still notes that NY-25 is in play.
