Like Paul Revere did in warning the people of Boston about those hated redcoats, I am warning my fellow Kossacks of an impending danger should we lose in 2006 (especially if we LOSE seats in the Senate, which is very possible despite the conventional wisdom favoring us!) While many of you fought valiantly in the great Social Security Battle of 2005 (with special thanks for Josh Marshall and Sen. Harry Reid for keeping the "Fainthearted Faction" Dems in line) the Republicans are planning for a new battle in 2007.
"Round two" can only be avoided if we WIN in 2006. The pro-Social Security group, Campaign for America's Future, just put out
this PDF showing where each Republican candidate in close Senate and House races stands on privatization.
If you live in Pennsylvania, hammer Santorum on this!
If you live in Missouri, hammer Talent on this!
If you live in Minnesota, hammer Kennedy on this!
If you live in New Jersey, hammer Kean Jr. on this!
If you live in Montana, hammer Burns on this!
If you live in Maryland, hammer Steele on this!
If you live in Virginia, hammer Allen on this!
If you live in Washington, hammer McGavick on this!
If you live in Nevada, hammer Ensign on this!
If you live in Michigan, hammer Bouchard on this!
If you live in Arizona, hammer Kyl on this!
If you live in Nebraska, hammer Ricketts on this!
All of these Republican Senate candidates (with the exception of Chafee) either openly supports privatization, or has flip flopped on it. Our Democrats running in these races MUST make Social Security a top priority (aside from "going for the jugular" on terrorism...but I'll do a diary on that tomorrow.) If we expose the GOP vermin now, we will be able to protect Social Security from being phased out! Please, DO NOT IGNORE THIS THREAD!!! Recommend it if possible! Call Senator Reid, Congresswoman Pelosi, the DSCC, and the DCCC!
And PRINT OUT OR SAVE the PDF file on the candidate's positions. The file is chock full of information on where GOP House candidates stand as well, but I'm bringing up the Senate first, because of the significance of the filibuster, and the fact that we could potentially be dealing with a filibuster-proof GOP if they gain seats in the Senate (and, no matter how optimistic you may feel about our chances, remember that we can STILL LOSE Senate seats!)
Here's the DSCC's site!
Here's the DCCC's site!
Here's Harry Reid's site!
Here's Nancy Pelosi's site!
Call them and point out the Campaign for America's Future document! Tell all of them to get off their butts and make Social Security a top priority!
