OK -- I made that up. But it got your attention. :) Here's my point: We all know about the big name Dem candidates who are making the headlines: Lamont, Tester, Busby (to name the top 3 on the
ActBlue Netroots Candidates list). But what about all those brave, struggling Democrats who are trying to fund their campaigns to unseat repugs in their state legislatures? These candidates are often being overlooked even by their own state parties -- state parties that are spending their resources trying to get those big name Dem candidates elected to the U.S. Congress.
Who
are those under-the-radar Democratic candidates? Here's mine:
Patrick Gardner
I posted this diary on Sunday. (Thank you to those who responded!) In it I explained that in the spring, repug TN State Rep. Debra Maggart voiced her homophobic opinion on gay adoption, exchanged emails with a master's student at Vanderbilt on the issue, and voted for a bill that would have banned homosexual couples from adopting.
Here in Sumner County, House Dist. 45, Patrick Gardner has stepped up to challenge Debra "Gays-Adopt-to-Molest" Maggart in the November election. Patrick is likely to be outspent by Maggart, and needs help raising the money that will make his a viable challenge. The state party is not stepping up to the plate to help him -- they think his opponent is unbeatable. You can bet the repugs aren't leaving Maggart out there without support!
So, if you can donate, please go to his secure, online donation page and make a donation. Even a $5.00 contribution can make a difference.
Please post something about a candidate who could use the help of the DK community. Don't forget to include links! And let's push this diary to the top of the heap -- this can only work if a lot of people see this diary and the candidates we support.
Stay strong!
