Okay, I must apologize. I made a mistake a couple of weeks ago. I got pissed off and said I was leaving Daily Kos and not coming back. I regret saying it. It's weakness on my part in some ways. I felt I had been unduly harassed by bigots and after 29 years of some extremely harsh bigotry (we're talking violence on my person, vandalism, etc.), my instinct is to just flee the area when feeling threatened.
At the time, I left Daily Kos and joined the community at MyLeftWing. They are very good people there and I hope to continue to enjoy my time with them as well, but I was encountering the same threatening attitudes there...
And it's not just bigotry. There's so much anger, so much insulting, so much in-fighting. And then there was a thread posted there by Maryscott O'Connor essentially discussing the similar problems I saw here and I had an epiphany: Who are we fighting here?
I mean, this should be self-evident, but I think many of us, myself included, seem to be forgetting it- we are all on essentially the same side here. Sure, there are many things we all disagree with, but there is one thing pretty much all of us agree with- that this country is being destroyed by the Republican control of our government.
THEY are the enemy, not us.
THEY sent our troops to war, not us.
THEY drowned people in New Orleans, not us.
THEY killed hundreds of thousands of people, not us.
THEY are destroying the economy, not us.
THEY are violating everyone's civil rights, not us.
Why are we attacking each other? Why are we getting pissed off at each other? Why are we all fighting over the pith helmet when there's a crazed rhino charging at us?
We have bigger problems! Stop fighting each other! Stop it now! Every time you start to get mad at another person who you know is basically on your side, remember the REAL evil we're facing. That's who we should be getting mad about, not each other! PUT ASIDE YOUR DIFFERENCES!
That is what I am going to try to do from now on. It is going to be a tough road, especially since I know some won't reciprocate, but I will do my best to stop getting angry at other people here. Despite not being one, I am going to try to do the Christian thing and turn the other cheek. Go ahead and attack me. I have a bigger fight on my hands.
