Again,
Fort Bend Now digs up the dirt...
Here's a snip:
Several dozen GOP precinct chairs from Congressional District 22 will gather tonight, along with select state Republican Party officials and local county chairmen, to try to choose a write-in candidate for Congress.
Fort Bend County GOP Chairman Gary Gillen won't be among them.
A day after passing along a letter from the Texas GOP, urging precinct chairs to attend the meeting, Gillen has done an about-face.
What's he doing? Find out after the jump.
He sent out a letter Wednesday blasting the Texas Republican Party leadership, which he said "has chosen to organize local Republicans into a secret, exclusionary process that only reinforces the perception of a back-room deal and the perception that we have something to hide."
In the Wednesday letter, Gillen asked "each of the candidates for Congressional District 22 not to attend this meeting. Furthermore, I am requesting that you send a letter to (Texas GOP Chairman Tina) Bensiker asking her to withdraw your name for consideration by this `unofficial' group of party leaders."
Wow. I never thought I'd ever see the Texas GOP so consumed with killing itself.
We still can't let our guard down. If anything, it's time to work harder and gain as much ground as we can while the wingnuts run in circles.
