There is a pervading myth that the extreme left-wing liberals have taken over the Democratic Party. This myth was started and perpetuated by the extreme right-wing neo-con. Ironic? Yes. Unbelievable? No.
The reality is that the extreme right-wing neo-cons have taken over the republican party.
Think about it, Schlessinger is running as a republican in Connecticut and no one in the republican party cares. The mainstream republicans support lieberman, whose only credentials is his support for the extreme right-wing neo-con war agenda. They don't even care if he proclaims himself a liberal. As a matter of fact, lieberman's past assurances that he is a liberal Democrat and his 90% Democratic voting record is a way for the extreme right-wing neo-cons to cry bi-partisanship. These empty proclamations however have fallen upon deaf ears since he decided to run as an independent long before the first vote was even cast during the '06 primary.
lieberman wasn't the only Democrat who voted in support for the use of military force. But when the lie of WMD's finally came out Democrats were scratching their heads wondering what's the use of bi-partisan support when honesty and integrity are part of the debate.
When has an extreme right-wing neo-con displayed bi-partisanship without being labelled as unpatriotic or accused of treason?
Chuck Hagel has finally came out with "straight talk" against the war in Iraq, true, but Chuck Hagel isn't considered an extreme right-wing neo con and his anti-war stance (albeit late) isn't an act of bi-partisanship as it is an act of common sense. Democrats like Dr. Howard Dean have been exercising "straight talk" against the war in Iraq since '04. Only his voice was overshadowed by a meaningless video enhanced sound-bite. Chuck Hagel hasn't hijacked the straight talk express. A more appropriate way to put it is, Chuck Hagel has jumped on the Straight Talk Bandwagon.
And where does that leave Moderate Republicans?
(you know the Moderate Republicans who were once known for fiscal responsibility, small government, anti-nation building and socially conservative values)
Out in the cold.
If the Democratic Party doesn't take back Congress, the republican party won't be in control of Congress, the extreme right-wing neo-cons will.
The Democratic Party is doing all they can to take back Congress. If Moderate Republicans want bi-partisanship back in Washington, they have a clear choice, either they support extreme right-wing neo-cons (with their war agenda, tax cutting for the wealthy, fear-mongering and sky-rocketing spending) or they support the Democratic agenda to take back control of Congress and work for real bi-partisan cooperation in solving the problem of terrorism that America and the World must now face.
