The first time that I remember hearing our Vice President present the idea that a "vote for a democrat" will bring an attack from Al Qaeda was during the 2004 Presidential election.
I remember joking that "Mr. Bush has a close relationship with the Bin Laden family and is very capable of making good on Mr. Cheney's threat." I laughed and laughed.
And then, I started to notice that good friends of mine were starting to read about the conspiracy theories concerning the destruction of the World Trade Center. These were reasonable, and practical people and they were totally ready to accept these theories that sounded completely off-the-wall to me.
"You see", they explained to me, "It is clear that the events of sept 11 have greatly added to the power and wealth of a certain group of people, and we are simply trying to connect the dots."
So, in the interest of connecting dots, here we are again, and Mr. Cheney, and a few friends are once again holding the threat of terrorism, like a pistol pointed up to our heads before we contemplate walking into the voting booths this year. It is obviously far fetched, and creepy, but he is totally starting to sound like those dudes from school who wanted part of my lunch money in order to protect me from harm.
..and it obviously has nothing to do with this...
