Oh, man, I wish I had that little siren thingy that Drudge runs for breaking news - the
repudiation of Doug Lamborn as Republican nominee for Colorado's Fighting Fifth is complete.
There is no good way Republicans can spin this news. But spin and spin they will. What else do they have after 6 years of George W. Bush and his Crony Capitalists?
HEADLINE: Joel Hefley Ponders Unretiring due to Extreme Views of Republican Nominee
Hefley just stomped on the throat of Doug Lamborn's campaign. From the Colorado Springs Gazette:
Rep. Joel Hefley is seriously considering running as a writein candidate to retain his seat rather than risk handing it over to Republican nominee Doug Lamborn.
...snip...
Hefley, who has represented the 5th Congressional District for 20 years, has been the subject of a three-week push by high-level Republicans to take this nearly unheard-of step, Littleton said Monday.
Since Lamborn edged former Hefley aide Jeff Crank in a six-way primary on Aug. 8, a number of party leaders, including elected officials, have begged Hefley to run again because of concerns about how Lamborn conducted his primary campaign, said Littleton and another party activist, who asked to remain anonymous.
A Lamborn spokesman said the campaign was not aware of the possible write-in effort, but after learning about it from a reporter Monday, Lamborn attempted to reach Hefley.
Out of the loop much, Doug?
Hefley wants to avoid "allowing someone who is very unethical to take over his seat," she said.
Joel Hefley was the Chairman of the Ethics Committee in the House. He was too ethical for Tom DeLay. He just called Doug Lamborn "unethical".
Doug Lamborn has been repudiated by significant parts of the Republican establishment here in the Springs. The unity picture taken after Lamborn's win was exactly what I said it was: phony.
Will Republicans wake up and choose the best candidate for this office, Jay Fawcett?
Will they deny Joel Hefley his well-deserved retirement?
Will "Focus" Dobson and "New Life" Haggard acknowledge the repudiation of one-issue fundamentalist poilitics and do what's right for Colorado and CD-5?
As they say: "Stay tuned, folks. News at 11."
