The role played by Powell and Armitage in the Iraq war was unique. The war may be Cheney`s and Rumsfield`s. But those guys, rightfully, didn`t have enough credibility with public to take the nation to the war. It was Powell`s UN presentation, stage managed at the US public, that really got things moving. I still believe that the only person who could have stopped the war was Powell. He didn`t. He put his loyalties to the president and establishment over his loyalty to the nation. He is about to pay the price soon..
..in the way of shame and public humiliation that his close friend and long-time assistant Armitage is about to receive. Karma is a bitch, it just takes time. Armitage can live with this forever. Powell too. It is a good lesson to folks who are put in places of public trust -- do not violate the trust in the name of petty loyalties to the establishment. You are supposed to stand up for the nation and its people.
Next year, when Dems are in power back in the Congress and during the admin`s twilight year`s, we will look back with horror what happened during the last few 4 years. A war, brought upon us just for domestic political reasons, will still wage on. Brave soldiers will continue to die and Congress will begin the long process of clean-up and healing act. The men without empathy will walk away to their hunting and biking and bush clearing back in their ranches. But those with conscience? What will they do?
