I spent labor day weekend in New Orleans doing the usual labor day stuff (read: Southern Decadence).
Once all of the festivities were over and done with, I took a drive down to the 9th Ward with my partner and two of our friends. In retrospect, I probably should have done that first. God knows, I needed some cheering up afterwards.
The streets are eerily quiet. Very few cars driving around and those folks that are out are mainly tourists. I saw one local woman walking around, but not another soul. The place still looks and sounds like death.
This is progress? Thank you very much, George Bush.
More pics below the flip. This is very representative of the incompetence of all levels of government.
So here's a pic that looks like it's right out of the Wizard of Oz, torn up from its base and tossed around.
The rest of the images speak for themselves. The one that gets me in particular is the house showing the number of dead pets. There were many, many houses like that. I also wish I got a picture of one of the many houses that begged "please do not bulldoze" on the side, even though they were obviously totally beyond repair.
