So I'm sitting down enjoying my dinner and watching Katie Couric's third day as the anchor of the CBS Evening News. I'm mostly just tuning in to watch Katie in her new job but when they came back from a commercial break towards the end of the news, someone else caught my attention.
In a segment they call "Free Speech," Rush Limbaugh comes on and rants and raves about how "Islamo'Facsists" want to kill us because of "who we are" and all that bullshit. Rush acted like typical Rush- spewing all the GOP talking points with his signature arrogance. My question: Why the fuck does CBS give this guy airtime on Katie's third day when the number of people tuning in will be way higher than normal?
Guys like Rush are on AM radio for a reason. The evening news is only a half an hour long. To waste precious airtime on guys spewing the same shit we've been hearing for the past few years makes me sick. Until the world runs out of news worthy of being reported, CBS should never give guys like Rush a pulpit to spew their ideology.
When it comes allegations of political bias in the media, from both conservatives and progressives, I either find myself undecided or defending the media. CBS' decision to give Rush this pulpit on Katie's third broadcast, which is guranteed to generate high ratings, makes me think twice about political bias in the media.
