We have heard a lot the last few days about the upcoming somber day for remembering the destruction of the World Trade Center, and all of the people who perished that day. We will hear much more in the next few days, and that is appropriate.
Much of the discussion lately has centered around ABC/Disney's planned broadcast of The Path To 9/11.
There is another documentary about this topic that is worth seeing before the ABC film, if only to put it in perspective. Details below.
In October, 2002, the PBS program Frontline, broadcast a show entitled
The Man Who Knew. John O'Neill is the man played by Harvey Keitel in the upcoming ABC docu-drama.
John O'Neill was probably the leading expert on Bin Ladin, Al Quaeda, and international terrorism prior to 9/11. He contributed no more to the war on terror after that day, as he was he was Chief of Security at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. He didn't make it out.
The entire program can be watched online here. If you can, it is well worth the time to watch it. It is broken down into approximately 10 minute segments. A full transcript is available here. A timeline of the Path to 9/11 is also available (Flash Player required) here. There are many other resources at the home page of this site.
I tried searching the 9/11 Commission Report pdf file once, and couldn't find O'Neill's name, but maybe it was just bad search technique.
Anyway, the Frontline program offers a good insight into everything that went on during Clinton's administration, and afterwards, and might add to our discussions over the next few days.
