Should Hillary Run?
Walking down the Republican-strewn streets of downtown Anchorage, Alaska on a daily basis, I often wonder if it is possible for the United States to elect a woman as its President.
Here in Alaska, one of the most conservative states in the Union, sex has not been an issue when it comes to electing politicians. Lisa Murkowski, whom was heavily criticized by Democrats and Republicans alike for being appointed by her father Frank to his Senate seat, was reelected as Senator no more than ten months ago. Sara Palin, the conservative former mayor of the rural and petit yet growing city of Wasilla, has just recently ousted two men from her party's nomination for governor. Could the success of these and many other women around the country facilitate the excising of the bias many naturally display towards them?
I hope so.
The one thing this country needs to do is stop pressing the snooze button every four years and lay ignorant and idle in their beds while the country continues on an autopilot crash-course for self-destruction. If one thing is guaranteed for the upcoming Presidential election it is change. I'm not sure if Hillary Clinton is qualified, venerated, or deft enough to be able to both steer this country in a positive direction and overcome the negative bias hurled at her for being the first female President of the United States but if it is of one thing that I'm sure, it is that I am willing to give her this opportunity.
