Feeling incensed by Disney's involvement in ABC's "The Path to 9-11"? Don't you want to DO something, like attend a protest but don't live near Burbank?
Like you, I signed the petitions, I wrote the letters. I asked my family and friends to sign the petitions. But somehow I want to do more. All of this ill-will they have stirred up in me--I want to "SEND IT BACK" to them.
My anger is deep. I feel betrayed by the Disney Corp. especially when I look around the house. I have a 6 year old and even though I never intended to, we have a house full of Disney branded merchandise.
That we paid money for. That Disney profited from.
I can't "un-pay" that money. But I don't want their products in my house anymore. And I want Disney to know it.
Luckily, my daughter has outgrown a lot of the smaller kids stuff, and doesn't mind getting rid of it. She's 6 and wants a more grown up things. She's just getting into Kim Possible, Pirates, etc. But we won't be buying any of that!
I thought about dumping the lot into several boxes and sending it to Disney CEO Iger. But I live overseas and that would be too expensive. SOOooo, I decided to pick one easy-to-mail item and SEND IT BACK!
I'm sending my first item (a small towel) to Bob Iger, CEO of Disney. Other Board Members will be getting coloring books and the like.
Here's the letter:
Mr. Iger,
I hope you find this Pooh hand towel useful in wiping the sweat from your fevered brow as you watch Disney's share prices drop due to your involvement in the lie-filled "Path to 9-11."
The towel was my daughter's but we don't want your products in our house anymore.
We have canceled our plans Oct 14-15 plans for Tokyo Disneyland. We go once or twice a year. NO MORE.
Here's a PARTIAL list of the things we've bought over the last few years. NEEDLESS TO SAY, we won't be buying any similar items in the future. You won't be getting any more of our money.
-Pooh stove (and dishes)
-Pooh refrigerator (and plastic food)
-Pooh stuffed animal
-Tons of videos, CDs, DVDs
-Character t-shirts and other items
(The list goes on from here, abbreviated for DailyKos)
If I lived in the States I'd mail the whole lot to you.
And you know what? I'm going to remember this long after the 9-11 mockumentary has aired. I estimate that you've lost $10,000--easily--in my family's money over the next 12 years, til my daughter turns 18.
Frankly, I hope you lose you job with no golden parachute.

Some of you will think this is too 'moonbatty.' Contrarily, I don't think it's enough. I would love to see a convoy of 18 wheelers pull up to Disney HQ with returned products, or a public event of thousands of people gathering in cities all across America dumping their Disney goods. These sort of things make great images to feed the media beast. Think back to the US-Japanese trade deficits of the 80s. What do you remember? A guy taking a sledgehammer to Japanese car. Much as I disagreed with it, that was an enduring image.
Just for the record, I do not support the idea of picketing Disney Stores or movies. Boycotting yes. But not picketing, because of the presence of smaller children who could not possibly understand why their "friends" are being picketed. I'm not giving them my money...but traumatizing kids is definitely not a good thing.
It would be a thing of beauty if every single board member got thousands of unwanted Disney items. SEND IT BACK! If you don't have anything, ask a friend with kids for an unused item. Believe me, they've got something. Or go to a Goodwill store and pick up something used. Just remember to: SEND IT BACK!
And tell your friends!
