Most of us remember a simpler time when all our problems were taken care of by others. I remember being a Brownie in Girl Scouts: I made peanut brittle and sewed sit-upons and went camping in a big Scout group cabin. The Scout leader warned us little girls to stomp when we went to the latrine to scare off snakes and other vile creatures. Oh, that it were so simple to scare off vile creatures these days.
I remember when my mother and daddy paid my bills, kept food on the table, went to football games and cheered with me, bought me my first car, paid for my college tuition. I was barely aware and not particularly concerned about the Iranian Hostage Crisis at the time. That was our trusted President's job. Mr. Carter seemed like a nice enough man, and I didn't like that Mr. Reagan made fun of him by saying, "There you go again." Rudeness didn't set well with me then.
This November, however, we don't have a "trusted President" and I am much more aware of the new Iranian crisis these 27 years later. So many of my fellow North Texans seem to still be living in simpler times as they speed down the freeway in their Hummers and Excursions, oblivous to the true costs of their singular choices. Let's remind them this November, shall we? All it takes from each of us is a simple phone call, a simple canvass, a simple LTE, and a simple vote.
Please wave at Mini-Muffy. She's third from the left, top row. (Muffys are always on the LEFT.) She deserves her own set of simpler times, dontcha agree?
