It's too late for the narrative to have its best impact of denying Bush his second term but it's still worth our while to get his narrative right. This is especially true since the Democrats are trying to run against Bush II - tarnishing his image up some more only serves to strengthen the case that we need enough Democrats in DC to be effective in containing the first brat.
The best part is that we've had ample material and opportunity to work with, so it may work yet.
Follow me below the fold for suggestions and ideas of how to help this meme rise to prominence.
First and foremost there should always be some small reminder of what George Bush the second is whenever you refer to him. At first keep it simple, things like "George Bush the second" and "Bush Jr." Eventually you'll be able to have people know who you're talking about when you use phrases like, "the First Brat," "two-year-old in chief," and "President Junior." I have tried to stick to this guideline in this post. I know that it can feel cumbersome, but it will become more natural with time so it's worth the effort.
Next, anytime he does or says anything that even remotely fits in with his spoiled brat, my way or the highway persona we need to bring up a past example to compare it to. Examples:
"Yeah, he's 'the decider' just like when junior 'decided' to ditch your national guard service because he got bored with flying the little planes."
"The world's biggest little tyrant wants to ignore the mean people in other countries who want to practice diplomacy just like he ignores Congress when he doesn't get his own way because he thinks that his 'signing statements' are law."
"Bush to stay the course in Iraq just like my two year old wants to stay the course of not going to bed. It's time for President Junior to take a nap and let the adults take over before he makes a mess in another country that he won't want to clean up."
"The First Brat didn't send enough troops to Iraq because he didn't want to clean up his own mess and now he wants to 'stay the course' because he's afraid the adults will see how big the mess really is if he brings the troops home."
"The spoiled little rich kid only wants tax cuts for the rich because it will make him popular with his spoiled rich friends."
"No bid contracts are how rich brats buy friends."
I'm hardly a creative and fast writer and I came up with those in a couple of minutes. I'm certain that the Kossacks out there can do far better. I'd also be surprised if we couldn't somehow fit everything Bush says and does in to this meme.
Coming up with zingers like that is a fun but potentially meaningless exercise, though. What's important is not that the sayings have any particular wit or sting. What matters is that they have enough truth, or at least truthiness, to them that they will be taken up given enough repetition. Make a conscious effort to bring up Bush's spoiled bratiness in blog posts, letters to the editor, and most importantly in conversations with friends and family.
