I am watching Kos on PBS.
First of all bravo, for Kos and for PBS Now producers.
Nice job overall.
And it brings me to my point.
I work in the mainstream media.
We are SCARED SHITLESS!!!!
It is all about BECOMING THE MEDIA!!!
EMPOWERMENT!!!!
This is a bold new frontier and the blogosphere has been crashing the gates in a way that has people like me who work in the mainstream media feeling almost redundant.
Well, not quite.
Professional news gatherers will always be needed.
And I for one welcome the pressure.
Bring it on KOS
BRING IT ON BLOGGERS!!!
WE ARE EMPOWERED!!!
NEVER FORGET IT!!!!
AND NEVER LOSE IT!!!
So, while it may be in my best interest to tell you #*@^&# bloggers to get lost, I am fired up!!
The MSM has gotten too lazy. Those days SHOULD be gone.
Sure, there will be the JonBenet Ramsey stories, but the blogosphere has shifted the dynamics of the media in quite serious ways.
I got into the media business years ago for one reason:
THE MEDIA SUCK!!!!!
You can bitch about it or make it better or cash in your chips trying.
And furthermore (while I am standing on my cyber-soapbox, a term I hope I just coined) we cannot forget the VITAL importance of MEDIA and INFORMATION in the fundamental ROOT of a democratic society.
The right to vote means little, to an UNINFORMED electorate.
There is much work to be done. I for one am proud to be a blogger at Daily Kos.
BLOG ON!!!!!
update
Reading some of the comments, I want to make an appendage:
Look, true, bloggers can kick ass sometimes, and many are full of shit.
My whining about the fate of the mainstream media was in jest to an extent. It is hardly a dinosaur. The consolidations continue, the cash rolls in.
Don't plan the funeral.
News gathering requires LOTS of work. Many news organizations are poised with staff and expertise to deliver.
This IS the information age. For me, it makes little difference putting out a newspaper in Quark or InDesign or HTML.
And even FURTHERMORE, I would note my observation that MANY people I have worked with in the media over the years, wouldn't know a news story if it bit them in the face.
Good help is hard to find.
