I haven't seen many diaries about the race rapidly heating up in CA-25, other than this one from June by
Altscott. A few months ago I went to dinner with the dynamic young Democratic challenger, Robert Rodriguez, and was mightily impressed. Today at 11 AM (PT) Robert's going to be Blue America's featured guest at
Firedoglake and will answer questions about his campaign to unseat rubber stamp Republican Buck McKeon. I've got an advance up at
Down With Tyranny now.
But before you dismiss this as a pipe dream, keep this in mind: the sprawling 25th district (from northeast of L.A. as far north as Sacramento!) became a minority-white CD last year. And Robert's former job was head of the California Voter Registration Project. This is a very under-the-radar district and maybe the Democrats' (and, more important, progressives') best chance to pick up a new seat in the Golden State.
The DCCC may not be looking at this race too closely, but they're always off base about California anyway. Rodriguez has been registering voters, walking the precincts and raising real money. He'll never match McKeon's legal corporate bribes but he's going to have enough for a viable challenge, something that hasn't happened in the 25th in quite some time. If you want to help, the Blue America ActBlue Page is open... 24/7. And today, you can wind up with a 2-CD Herbie Hancock greatest hits set if you're an early donor!
