To hear President Bush use the phrase "flawed logic" in a sentence is incredible. In the 6 years of existence as our President, the "frat boy-in-chief" has had trouble mastering the English language.
So, his brief mastery of big words was a relief. Though I consider it a "freudian slip-up" of sorts because his decisions in the last 6 years have been based on "flawed logic."
Conservative pundit and MSNBC host, Joe Scarborough posed an interesting question on his program one day: "Is Bush an idiot?" To which, I reply, no. Before I lay the case for George Bush's mad brilliance, let me drop my theory on why Bush is so deplorable at speaking in public.
When Bush speaks his handlers scramble to the television. Chewing on their fingertips in anticipation of his next flub. What word will he mangle? What phrase will he fuck up? Hell, if Vegas put odds on everytime Bush screwed up a speech, everyone would be a winner.
Bush's follies are the direct result of a man unsure of himself. Scared at the thought of having the Herculean responsibilites of President placed on his shoulders. Why do you think Bush has taken more vacation time than any other President in history. The job is stressful and it takes away from his valuable exercise time.
Does that make him an idiot?
No. His much smarter than you think.
Why?
When he first ran for public office in Texas in the early 1970's, Bush believed that his mastery of all things the economy would win over the West Texas crowd. But, his Yale education, outsider status, and brainaic persona was a complete turn off to the people in the district he sought to win over, thus costing him the election.
However, Bush didn't leave as a loser nor a shell of a man. Dubya was smart enough to realize that in order to seduce the hearts and minds of the average Joe, you must speak to them in a way that makes them feel welcomed and not be threatened by horrible things like "knowledge" and "facts."
George Bush would morph into a Texan. He shits "Texas." He walks with that Texas swagger and he governs like a Texan. "Shoot first and ask questions later."
The downside to that Cowboy diplomacy or Cowboy governing is it has delivered these results in the last 6 years:
The loss of New York's World Trade Center
The loss of New Orleans to flood waters
The complete apathy towards black, New Orleans residents who were begging for help
The ill-conceived Iraq invasion, based on fraudlent intelligence
The outing of CIA operative Valerie Plame as means of revenge
The complete erosion of the Separation of Church and State
The pissing of our Constitution
The G-8 summit behavior, to which Mr. Bush believed it was a frat house party
Yes, a resume like that could qualify Mr. Bush as a monumental failure in American history. Only a mad genius could deliver such a shameful display of ineptness.
Beneath the folksy manner and straight talk, lies a smug, arrogant, and pompous gentleman who believes that he is the messiah walking the Earth. It's no surprise that Bush would have a Messiah complex. He was the heir to the Bush family throne and to make sure the legacy lived on, he was handed the Presidency by the Right-Wing of the Supreme Court.
And so it leads us to yesterday's press conference. The President, again, is desperate to make his case to the American people on why we continue to fight. But, according to the polls, Americans have grown hair in their ears and are not listening to their President.
And, that's where the frustration takes place. In a contentious Q&A session with NBC's David Gregory, Mr. Bush appeared to be moments away from jumping over the podium to bite David Gregory's head off. If that occured, Mr. Bush wouldn't just be biting the head off of David Gregory, but of every American who is tired of his schtick. 60 percent are against the war in Iraq and another 60 percent are against Bush's use of Hitler references.
No one is taking Bush's word like a grain of salt and it frankly is pissing him off.
Tired of the constant poking and proding. Tired of having his feet held to the fire like all leaders should be.
My solution?
Quit.
If these are too big of problems to handle Mr. President, then you owe it to your fellow Americans to leave the White House immediately. If you can't understand that having your feet held to the fire is part of the job, then you must eliminate yourself from the duties as "Commander-in-Chief." The G-8 summit was bad enough, but yesterday was much worse.
This week marked the 5th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks and the ruling party benefited from those events. Making the country believe that the minority were unwilling to protect this country from the new evil lurking from the shadows, even going so far as to smear them as "appeasers."
But there is one person who benefited the most from 9/11 and he is in the White House right now.
George Bush was destined to be just a hysterical footnote in American history. But 9/11 turned Bush from a "nobody" to a "somebody." A leader that we could depend on when the going got tough. It turned George Bush into a leader, and not some heir to a dynasty.
George Bush could not have been successful in 2004 without the 9/11 attacks, nor could have easily sold an invasion of Iraq without them.
But the opportunity given to him by the 9/11 attacks has been squandered. He's turned this country into a cesspool. And, he has no idea to turn things around, because he doesn't hear the country asking for change. 9/11 was thrown on his lap for a reason and now he clearly doesn't want that responsibility.
Quitting would definitely mean that Bush has admitted his administration has been a disaster, but Mr. President since you can't understand the responsibilites of your position and the rules and regulations, leaving office might be the most patriotic thing to do.
