As Jeb Bush heads out the door as the Florida Governor "Most Responsible for Legislating Paradise", as any good control freak, he uses every hour of every remaining day left in office to make certain his legacy remains solidly in place.
His immortality.
Which is ironic as his policies have proven immoral to the Sunshine State.
His neo-con philosophy has tentacled to all level of government in our state. The Brevard County Commission is just one example among many who "rule the roost" without
regard to those they represent.
Amendment Three is the latest grab for constitutional power.
Voters will be asked November 7 to limit their own ability to alter the legal blueprint of the state by requiring constitutional amendments to pass by a 60 percent majority instead of the current 50 percent.
The Florida Legislature under the leadership of Jeb Bush has cried foul over the people's voice several times, even accusing Floridians of "not understanding" when voting to amend the state consitution. The class size amendment is just one example. Voters voted it in, Jeb wanted a do-over, and oh darn...he didn't get it.
The State is run by the people. The people still have a voice through the vote.
But people...to be heard, one has to vote, whether in person or by absentee ballot.
On September 7, only 15 percent of voters turned out to choose gubernatorial nominees and vote in other primaries
Amendment Three is just one more attempt to limit the power of the people.
Trust the Voters, a bipartisan coalition, is the counterattack.
Bob Graham, former Governor and Senator of Florida has joined hands with Panama City attorney and developer Charlie Hilton, a powerful veteran of conservative causes. Hilton opposes his Republican business partner House Speaker Allan Bense, who led the drive in the Legislature to put Amendment 3 on the ballot.
Trust the Voters has about $30,000 in the bank. Protect Our Constitution, Amendment Three supporters, which include the powerful Florida Chamber of Commerce, National Association of Home Builders, Publix, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, the Florida Association of Realtors, and U.S. Sugar (again with the U.S. Sugar!) coffers balance out at around $1.5 million. That's a shock. (Not!)
Trust the Voters.
Vote No on Amendment Three, November 7, 2006.
