I'm writing on the road to Sonora, having left this morning at 2:00AM. The excitement has picked up as we have had radio or TV interviews every day, much time on the phone, and increasingly interested crowds across party lines. With my opponent well below 50 percent in the Zogby poll, interest has increased. We've had radio or TV interviews each day. I enjoyed teaching to the local high school classes on Government and Economics, and I am making plans for teaching my Peer Mediation class this coming Wednesday.
Mediation is an efficient way to reduce violence and promote education. I've taught in these programs (including Upward Bound) for fifteen years. They address a key problem in our schools, and train students to solve conflicts
In 2003, one in three high school students reported involvement in a physical fight and nearly one in ten reported being threatened or injured with a weapon on school property during the preceding twelve months, according to the Centers for Disease Control report in the July 30, 2004 Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.
With homicide and suicide responsible for about one quarter of deaths in the U.S. in the 10-24 year old category, the U.S. Dept of Health and Human Services listed the reduction in physical fighting among adolescents and the reduction of weapon carrying by adolescents on school property among the National Health Objectives for 2010.
This afternoon we've asked for a meeting and tour at Aermotor windmills, which provides stiff competition with solar panels. They've made the point that a 30% tax credit is available for the purchase of a solar pump, yet none for windmills. Those folks feel that solar panels have unfair advantages over windmills, emphasizing the domestic production of windmills.
Aeromotor proudly discloses that windmills are the original green industry Aermotor started in 1888. The durability of Aermotor windmills, produced domestically, in standing up to the environment, hail, winds and storm are legendary, according to the Aermotor folks.
