Here it is. The perfect op-ed. My candidate is talked up, shown as the leader and visionary she is. Her plan is explained. Our opponents lies, hypocrisy, and disregard for the people in our district is highlighted.
This article says everything I want voters in my district to hear, other than "Vote Skinner!". This is what I would say when I knock on doors. This is what I would tell people on the street. (I suppose I wouldn't talk about my opponent so much, I'd probably slam him a few more times too...but that's why I'm not a member of the press and Jack Lessenberry is).
Republicans are trying to dismiss her as a carpetbagger and media celebrity from Illinois. Now 41, she did move to Chicago for a time after earning a business degree from the University of Michigan.
The carpetbager thing...I don't even know what to say. Nancy grew up in Royal Oak, a crucial part of the 9th district. She went to U of M! Joe Knollenberg was born in Illinois and went to Eastern Illinois University.
...she has middle-class Oakland County roots; she grew up in Royal Oak, the daughter of Chuck Skinner, the longtime high school football coach at Hazel Park and Birmingham Seaholm.
Politically, she'd do well to talk more about that. Her ideas about the future of the auto industry, however, are her best feature."
Her best feature is her PLAN! Better than growing up middle class in the district, better than an extremely popular and well known father, and even better than the "movie star looks" he mentions earlier in the article...Nancy Skinner is a woman with a business degree, a passion for the environment (she helped develop the Chicago Climate Exchange) and a plan to help the auto industry "green" itself.
Joe Knollenberg doesn't need a plan, he has already taken action. He voted to give $6,000,000,000 of TAX DOLLARS to the oil industry in the form of subsidies. Skinner wants to repeal that blatant robbery of the American people and use it to develop fuel efficient vehicles that will be part of the solution, not contribute to the problem.
Lessenberry does note that Skinner will need money to take her message to the airwaves. As you can imagine, when researching candidates in this race, the Oil Lobby and all of Big Business chose to support Joe Knollenberg.
Here at Skinner for Congress, we are relying on small dolar donations. From our "Tank of Gas House Parties", where supporters are asked to contribute what it costs them to fill up their tanks, to our ActBlue Page that has raised almost $75k.
If you support Nancy Skinner's plan, contribute today! Act fast and you could be our 800th donor!
