Well, maybe not the issue, but a potentially important part of the story. From the Judiac point of view (as I understand it) Jewishness passes from mother to child. This goes way back to biblical times. So I am Jewish because my mother is Jewish, whose mother was Jewish, whose mother was Jewish.....
I was never Bar Mitzhav'd (I can't even spell it right) but I eat bagels and lox, and if Hitler comes back I'm in trouble. My religious practice is a form of Tibetan Buddhism, but I am Jewish - because of my mom and her mom and her mom.
So regarding George - if his mom's mom was Jewish, then he is Jewish - end of discussion. Whether he likes it or, he's a Jew. If his mom's mom was not Jewish, then his mom probably wasn't (unless she converted), and he isn't.
I only bring this up to ask if anybody knows about his maternal grandmother, and what happened to her? Was she Jewish? None of this would be an issue if George "don't call me Felix" Allen hadn't shared with the world his racist assumption that being called partly Jewish is a slur.
** and please be kind. This is my first diary since after the 2004 elections. Maybe my first ever.
