My first diary - please be kind and instructive...
I have been combing the internet and news sites trying to find one dem - just one - who's broken their deafening silence on the issue of Bush's pro-torture bill and the so-called compromise bill of Little Johnny "Conscience."
Scouring buzzflash.com I found this article at the Sun-Times. California Rep. Jane Harman had a few words to say that may give us a clue about the dems' strategy for next week.
See what you think - below the fold:
''The key to this deal will be whether Congress exercises real oversight over the CIA interrogation program,'' said California Rep. Jane Harman, who as the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee has been briefed on the handling of terror suspects.
The GOP bill outlines war crimes such as torture and rape, but it also says the president can ''interpret the meaning and application'' of the Geneva Conventions to less severe interrogation procedures. Such a provision is intended to allow him to authorize methods that might otherwise be seen as illegal by international courts.
Harman said Friday she wants the administration to give Congress a list of techniques approved by the president and legal justification for the methods.
''If Congress does not demand this information, we will be giving the president another blank check to violate the law,'' she said. AP

Might the dem strategy be to let the clock run out by asking for a list of "approved" interrogation techniques from the Bushies? We know they never react well to those requests.
Will dems be talking about "oversight" next week? About not giving Bush a "blank check?"
What do you think? Is this at least something? Or is it just weak?
