Tessa Hafen exacts swift, sure retribution for the smear that is
Porter the Puppet's entire campaign strategy. Please enjoy the ad by visiting her website, consider donating to keep it on the air, then read on to learn more about Tessa. Flinging the carpetbagger label at Hafen--a third generation Nevadan born and bred in the district where she owns a house and teaches-- because she worked for Sen. Reid in Washington DC smacks of desperation, but Porter can't run on his record of obedience to corporate and party bosses. Porter's main PR hack, like Rove, has one wrinkled, yellowed page in his playbook; this attack is a sloppy rerun of the same lies about the 2004 Democratic opponent.
Here's the first graf of Hafen's quick-response
press release:
Iowa-born millionaire insurance salesman and embattled Bush "Yes Man" Jon Porter today launched a sleazy new personal attack ad on challenger Tessa Hafen. The spot was funded by donations to Porter's campaign from Tom Delay, big oil, his friends in the insurance and drug industries, and other special interests with a financial stake in continuing the Republican culture of corruption.
Is this election about issues that matter locally, the incumbent's job review or a referendum on the failed Bush/Cheney/Rove presidency? However Porter, the face of Bush in Nevada, places his bet, he loses to Tessa Hafen's smoothly accelerating campaign in this Southern Nevada district.
She takes clear, strong stands on the issues that matter to working families like Iraq, education, renewable energy and health care. She supports: firing Rumsfeld as the first step in changing course in Iraq, funding No Child Left Behind, reimportation of Canadian drugs and fixing the gap in Medicare Part D. She calls for expanded access to health care, starting with CHIP, the pediatric insurance program. All this and much more are detailed on her Website.
From Tessa's Energy Plan:
Expanding Renewable Energy Sources and Increasing Energy Efficiency
Nevada is poised to be a leader in renewable energy development and production. In order to make this a reality, we must have leaders in Congress committed to renewable energy development and energy efficiency and not lining the pockets of the big oil and gas companies. I am that leader.
Promoting Hybrid Vehicles, Developing Alternative Fuels and Raising Fuel Efficiency Standards
As an owner of a hybrid vehicle, I believe that this technology will help address our energy future. I strongly support additional incentives to manufacturers and consumers to get more hybrid vehicles on our roads. Fuel efficiency standards in vehicles should also be increased to lower the amount of gas we burn in our cars and trucks, as well as to reduce pollution and greenhouse gas emissions
Porter's website is strangely content-free, and like him, bland as unsalted oatmeal. (Sorry, don't want to give him hits. Just google it if you must.) The word Iraq is nowhere to be found. At a forum, he said Rumsfeld is doing "as well as he can under the circumstances," as if someone else were responsible for the invasion of a country that posed no threat to the US with no plan for the occupation. Porter didn't get the memo that the president admitted Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. He says he's against the nuclear waste repository at Yucca Mountain, but repeatedly invites radioactive dumpers Cheney and Bush to raise money for him in events hidden from the media without so much as a squeak in protest.
Porter's signature achievement is casting the deciding vote to kill a $1500 bonus for all active duty military. He actually voted for it until aides for Majority Whip Roy Blunt, ordered him to switch on the floor. What a great go-to guy! Party leaders have dumped hundreds of thousands into Porter's campaign funds.
A well-researched story in the Las Vegas Sun walks readers through Porter's four years of conscience-less adherence to the Bush/Cheney/Rove agenda.
How about hanging on to W's coattails for dear life? Nope. Hafen co-opted the money-shot of him cuddled up to Bush for two of her ads. Darn.
Nevada is a central element to a winning electoral college tally in 2008, which makes sending Hafen to Washington doubly urgent.
In Congress, Tessa Hafen will lead the fight with other Western Dems like Goldmark, McNerney, Brown and Tester for renewable energy production and reduced dependence on oil. She will fight for veterans, repair Medicare Part D and expand access to health care. Isn't that a wonderful vision?
