Tonight, if you live in New York City, you have the chance to meet Air America legend
Sam Seder in person and shake his hand.
Sam Seder will be appearing at Brian Keeler's Blograiser, at the hot NYC nightspot, "Prey." (4 West 22nd Street) at 7:00pm tonight.
Markos will be liveblogging the event on the front page of Daily Kos, and satellite blograisers will be held in Los Angeles and Berkeley. For details, click here.
Now, a lot of you out there in Kossack-land are probably scratching your head and wondering why you should support Brian Keeler's race. After all, you might wonder, he's only running for a State Senate seat -- shouldn't you put your efforts into federal races?
Follow me on the flip, and I'll explain why this is a good race for you to support.
The State of New York is a heavily Blue State, but its Congressional delegation still contains quite a few Republicans. The reason for this anomaly is because when the 2000 redistricting was done, George Pataki was Governor and the State Senate was held by Republicans, and therefore the State was redistricted to protect Republican incumbent Congressmen.
Now, however, we're about to elect a Democratic Governor, Elliot Spitzer. And the State Assembly is controlled by Democrats. The New York State Senate, however, is the last bastion of Republican control. The Republicans now hold a four seat majority in a body that should be dominated by Democrats. Keeler, however, is running against a long time Republican State Senate incumbent who is in a vulnerable blue district and should be defeated. If Brian wins, and a few other Dmeocratic State Senate candidates win, the oppotunity will be there to implement a fair and nonpartisan Congressional map, which should net Democrats several seats in the House of Representatives. So, by supporting Brian, you are in fact helping elect a Democratic House.
In addition, it must be stressed that Brian, NYBri, is a long time Kossack and blogger. As such, he appreciates the values of bloggers and Kossacks more than virtually any elected official, and can bring those values to elective office. Accordingly, if you really care about what we're doing here at Daily Kos, and the way we're changing the debate, electing Kossacks to public office is a great way to effectuate that change, since you will be sending a netroots "ambassador" to Albany to help explain to some of the more fossilized machine politicians just what this blogosphere is all about.
So, if you can't attend the blograiser in person, make sure you at least drop by Daily Kos for the highlights tonight, and donate a few bucks to help Brian capture his seat.
But if you can attend, I heartily recommend that you do so. You'll get to hang out with SAM SEDER, and how often do you get to do that???
