While Marsha Blackburn may be quick to spew words of gratitude to our brave men and women, her voting records speaks of another story.
In Sunday's edition of The Leaf-Chronicle, Congressman Marsha Blackburn was quoted as saying that she supports American troops stations at Ft. Campbell.
"There is a tremendous amount of credit to the men and women that have been deployed through Fort Campbell," she said. "They deserve not only the gratitude, but also the respect of the American people."
While Marsha Blackburn may be quick to spew words of gratitude to our brave men and women, her voting records speaks of another story. In 2005 Congressman Blackburn voted to cut veterans' healthcare by $14 billion over the next five years and require $798 million in reduced benefits or increased fees [H CON RES 95]. If that wasn't enough, Congressman Blackburn later voted against expanding access to the military's TRICARE health insurance program to thousands of Reservist and National Guard members, even though 20 percent of all Reservists do not have health insurance, and 40 percent of Reservists aged 19 to 35 lack health coverage [HR 1815].
Bill Morrison, the Democratic candidate for Tennessee's 7th Congressional District, said this to Marsha Blackburn's remarks:
"Gratitude and respect mean more than just waving flags and saying kind words about our brave soldiers when they return home. It's about giving them the resources they need while they serve and providing the necessary benefits to them and their families after their job is done."
Bill Morrison is committed to making sure Congress does all that they can to support our troops. Because of this, Bill has earned the endorsement of the Veterans and Military Families for Progress (www.wmfp.org).
"We feel veterans, active duty, military families, and in fact, all people of Tennessee will be well-served with Morrison as their representative by ensuring America remains strong in national defense and fighting terrorism."
