I just got home from the Jim Webb rally at Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, VA. WOW!!!!! Webb was awesome. John Edwards was electrifying.
Please pardon any typos or poor grammar. I literally just walked in the door from the rally. Beautiful day, large crowd (not just students but a lot of townies, too.)
Jim started things off after he was introduced by State Senator Edd Houck (very cool guy, btw.) He talked about how screwed up things are in Iraq but that we still need to honor those serving (huge response on that one), he talked about how the top 1% have seen their wealth grow tremendously in the last 6 years but that the rest of the people have not enjoyed the same good fortune, he talked about how he will work to appoint a commission that will look at fraud , waste and abuse from the War on Terror and Iraq.
I didn't really know what to expect from Webb. He can be a little stiff on TV. He was great. Very direct and down to earth. I also eavesdropped on the presser after the event. Both Webb and Edwards were so well spoken, informed and thought quickly on their feet.
I was able to get my picture taken with Sen Edwards after the rally (definately a high point.)
In my opinion, Edwards is running again! His speech was amazing. His ability to weave a a narrative together with important issues is simply incredible. He kept talking about how America can not just be strong, it must also have moral authority, to lead the world. "America is better than this" is what he kept coming back to. He talked about how this Senate race is about more than politics, it is about the future of our Nation, and the legitimacy of our form of government (a paraphrase on my part.)I.E. how wrong the Bush Administration has been and how much they have undermined the Congressional role of oversight.
In short, it was awesome. A buddy from work (a fellow Kossack) took a bunch of pics and as soon as I have them, I will post them.
Jim Webb was great! At the presser he was asked a ton of questions about the whole racist meme that is engulfing George Allen, I didn't hear everything that was said....sorry, no sound bites on that one.
The local DC press was there, so if your are in the DC Metro area, tune in to the local news tonight. I saw reporters from Channels 4 and 5.
When I can remember more, I will post updates.
