The worm is turning, me thinks.
Note the upswing of "conservative callers," sock puppets, and fake bloggers all around the "media-sphere." That's the result of Mehlman & Rove begging for "volunteers." Because they have no real integrity or grace, the only use they have for these folks is in trying to marginalize a movement for which they have absolutely no understanding of.
For years, the GOP has relied almost exclusively on exploiting the ignorance and fear of its potential constituency. Further, its primary tactical image is one of binary absolutism. There is no exploration of the grey areas. There is no examination, mention, nor account of the infinite variables that lie in-between (if not compose) issues. Rather, on its face, today's GOP has the versatility of a single Othello piece: One side black, the other, white.
Therefore, we are now privy to witness the swift decay of such tactics. This decay, I feel has advanced exponentially this week (Thank you, President Clinton.)
It seems that the [eledged, but believed by me] campaign to institutionally destroy the Democratic Party, to enslave this nation by exploiting the ignorance and fear of its citizens, to nullify all things Constitutional to procure power, has at last begun to backfire. Anyone who has read anything I have written about the inevitable decline and collapse of totalitarianism (Here's one. Here's another one. Here's another. Here's yet another.) would know that I feel that it is impossible for it to become a continuum; but rather rises, matures, and swiftly crashes into oblivion.
While ignorance can be powerful when proclaimed loudly (for example, nationalist rhetoric,) it is inherently absent of both logic and legitimacy and therefore is subject to rapid decay.
As these critical weeks progress, I assert that the Mehlmans, Roves, Bushes, Rices & Cheneys will make the grave error of relying on the treachery that had once given them such success in the past. I am certain it will continue to backfire, thus helping people like me. I beg them to do so.
Specifically, perhaps the most dreaded mystery our party faces is the "weapon" Mr. Rove is currently brandishing. Of course, I am speaking of the "October Surprise."
While the speculation ranges from a "thwarted attack" on United States soil to an preemptive attack on Iran (which would hold vast consequences,) this "Surprise" could very well consist of the Bush Administration producing Osama Bin Laden just before the November chill hits the air. I feel that many Democrats are afraid of this happening. However, I feel in the strongest possible terms that the Bush Administration producing this man is nothing to fear. Rather, if acted upon right now, it is potentially a Democrat's greatest asset. All that the Democratic Party must do to neutralize this fear and convert it into a priceless asset for the party is to suggest and denounce its possibility of being the "October Suprise." Further, the party should loudly condemn the Bush Administration and its Republican loyalist Congress for 5 years of perpetual and abysmal failure in reference to capturing this man.
Example:
"During every major election cycle, we become aware of some sort of `October Surprise' from the GOP. I find it incredibly revealing that the Republicans can only produce on issues they have done absolutely nothing to address every other October.
At this point, I wouldn't put it past people like Karl Rove to conceal the capture of Osama Bin Laden, himself just so that the Republicans could reveal his capture in late October.
This is a sad tactic. What's sadder is that I [we] am at a point, after so many years of witnessing so many of these reprehensible political tactics by Karl Rove and the Bush Administration, that I cannot rule out a suspicion that Bin Laden is in a cell somewhere, and the American people, who have weathered immense frustrations for so long because of this Administration's deliberate failure to capture him, must endure his capture in the form of a cheap political trick.
I think the American People deserve better than this, and I hope that... should this in fact be Rove's "October Surprise"... I sincerely hope that the American people see this political travesty for what it is.
The American people are smarter than that. After six years, I think they know better."
Even if I'm wrong about Bin Laden being the surprise, I feel it is prudent for Dems in both the Party Leadership and the blogosphere to squash this potential tactic.
The GOP is cornered, wounded, and desperate to remain in power. By now, it should be crystal clear that there is absolutely no depth they will sink beneath to hold on to it. It is crucial for all of us to debunk even the most preposterous suspicion before it can be utilized.
We'll have to see what the "October Surprise" actually is; but be warned. If it is one of the things that I think it could be, you'll kick yourself for not doing whatever you think you can do to neutralize its impact before it is unleashed on the nation.
Contrary to popular belief, I believe that Karl Rove is not a "genius." Rather he is nothing more than an unscrupulous cheater, by which "cheater" is the only word that should follow "ingénues" or "brilliant" when referencing Mr. Rove.
The best way to beat a cheater is to become fluent in his methods, and therefore remove each potential cheat before it can be used until his "bag of tricks" is empty and the playing field has leveled itself.
I pray that whether or not Dems agree with my opinion of Karl Rove, they take heed of my stated urgency of anticipating and quelling any benefit the GOP plans to enjoy after the "Surprise" is revealed. Trust me, whatever it is, it is going to be big. They are clawing for life over there.
They need a "miracle."
That's all I can write for right now (brain drain!) More later.
Thanks for listening!
Update:
This diary is in no way a summation of the full gamut of potential GOP tactics. Rather, what I had inteded by writing this opinion (possibly poorly) was to examine one specific possibility.
Apologies in advance if I failed to do this well.
