Auntie Beeb is reporting that staff and students have been evacuated from a high school in Bailey, Colo. (southwest of Denver), where a gunman is reported to have taken up to four hostages. Police and SWAT teams have been sent to the school, and there are indications that shots have been fired.
CNN says that both the high school and an adjacent middle school were evacuated. One hostage was apparently released unharmed, but up to four others are still being held. The hostage-taker claims to have a bomb.
Bailey is in Park County, not far from Jefferson County, which is also the location of the (in)famous Columbine High School. Chances are good that this will knock Congress off the front pages and down from the top of the newscasts for the next day or so.
I'll update (or delete, as appropriate) when more information becomes available. I didn't see another story on this, and it seemed worth posting.
Update [2006-9-27 16:46:39 by musing85]:: According to The Denver Post, only two hostages remain in the school. The other three were released unharmed.
