In
DavidNYC's front-paged post earlier today, I made an offer to match contributions to FL-24 candidate Clint Curtis, up to $100. I got one taker at $20.01, but then the big news broke about Mark Foley's resignation from neighboring district FL-16. In
another FP post, LarryinNYC pointed out how this is a great example of the importance of challenging in every district. And what timing -
Markos did the same just as I'm writing this diary! Certainly, it is fortuitous a Dem candidate is running in FL-16 and has rather unexpectedly been propelled from a long shot to a potential winner.
But let's not forget about Clint, who has been plugging away and struggling nearly all year to bring down corrupt Tom Feeney (R-Abramoff). While it seems unlikely Feeney will become embroiled in a child sex scandal between now and November 7, keep in mind he's on CREW's list of most corrupt candidates. (I'm excluding the link to CREW's website, as it's under extremely heavy load at the moment.) Feeney also refuses to debate Clint and has even launched a
laughably absurd website dedicated to what he calls Clint's tinfoilhattery.
Clint is in the FL-24 race until the bitter end. While there have been some supportive (and much appreciated) comments to my diaries about him, they've mostly been ignored. I get the feeling people are concerned about the "conspiracy" aspect of Clint's claims regarding Feeney and the vote rigging software scandal. And I've been flat-out told that FL-24 is a waste of time because no one can bring Feeney down. Funny, wasn't everyone saying that about FL-16 just a few days ago?
I invite you all to look at what Clint stands for and what he'll fight for as a Congressman:
Clint Curtis on the Issues
Read the above link, and then tell me Clint isn't the kind of man this country needs in Congress. Tell me I'm wasting my time helping him and asking others to do the same. Besides, it's quite clear Feeney's worried. Why else launch that ridiculous website? Why refuse to a candidate debate? Why not take the test, Tom? Take the same polygraph test Clint did, and if you pass, it will be all the proof we need that Clint really is crazy. Either that, or one of you has figured out how to cheat at polygraph tests. Let's hope it's you, Tom, since it would prove a useful skill for a GOP incumbent to have these days. ;-)
Again, my offer stands. I'll match your donations to Clint, up to $100 total. I've already got a $20 offer, so that leaves $80. (Hey, I can remember how to subtract. Thank you, public education!) I realize $100 isn't a great deal, but it's the best I can do right now. This is an offer I really can't afford, but I believe in Clint and think that this fight is worth my sacrifice.
Last but not least a front page post from yesterday (I think) discussed how some candidates are getting a lot more attention than others, mainly due to the enthusiasm of the campaign workers. I'm certainly not a particularly enthusiastic-sounding person, and maybe that's why my diaries on Clint haven't picked up much steam. I apologize for that, but I simply ask people to look past my weaknesses and see what a great candidate Clint is, and how important it is to America that we give him a fighting chance.
And now here's your freakin' pooties, damnit:
Full disclosure: I am a volunteer for Clint Curtis for Congress, although my posts here are my own and not in my capacity as a campaign worker.
