With all the grim news as of late (though the latest, for a change, seems to be grim news for Republicans) I finally found the courage to do what I've wanted to do many years.
I volunteered for a campaign yesterday.
The campaign I'm going to be working on is
Mary Jo Kilroy's campaign, in the OH-15 district. She's up agianst Deborah Pryce, fourth in rank of House Republicans and one of Bush's most reliable rubber stamps. The polls show them in close to a
dead heat, with Pryce maintaining a slight lead.
Originally, I volunteered for data entry, which is my speciality (I can type close to 100 WPM). But the campaign staffer I talked to last night said they need far more bodies in door to door canvassing and phone banking.
Now, I've never had much in the way of charisma, or selling people on stuff before, and I don't know the first thing about canvassing or phone banking. I have a general idea of the strategy -- get out the student vote, which probably would tip the scales in Ms. Kilroy's favor -- but not sure how to really go about it.
So I ask the Kossacks out there for any advice they may have, or experiences they may have, doing this sort of campaign work. I want to make every hour count.
Thank you in advance for any information!
