After dropping out of college almost 10 years ago, I am trying to get my associates degree. I am currently a student at Western International University and all of my classes are online.
One of the classes I am in, cultural diversity, is requiring a 2500 word paper on influences of race and gender in my community. My community can be considered my neighborhood (where I know about 4 people), local government (don't really know anyone), service groups (nope not a member), clubs (don't belong to any), schools (don't attend any other than this one), workplace (I stay at home), or any environment of which you are a part. Needless to say, I had a very hard time trying to find a community of which I was a part. Finally, I got my professor to agree to a community that I look forward to being a part of every day. This one - Daily Kos.
One of the sources of the paper has to come from a community member, leader, or representative. I would really appreciate it if anyone would answer any of the following questions. You can comment here or email me at kisler@triad.rr.com.
- Do you feel that race or gender has any influence in this community?
- Do you feel that others treat you differently here because of race/gender?
- Do you find yourself treating someone else differently once you learn their race/gender?
- Do you feel that minority group interests and issues are represented here?
- If you could resolve any inequalities in race or gender in this community, what would you change?
- If you feel that race and gender are not issues in this community, are there other characteristics that you feel are?
Thanks for your help!
