As usual, it's another day at the office, another morning and I am doing my mundane office work and listening to Morning Sedition (while most Kossacks are still in REM sleep).
I'm laughing along, much to the amusement of my colleagues who are wondering what the hell I am listening to, when I here the greatest news I have heard in long time.
Follow me brothers and sisters...
The Christian Coalition is going under. Hooray! I am not an atheist, agnostic or anti-Christian. Much to the opposite, I am very much a Christian, although I have been very reluctant to admit this lately, mainly because of nutjobs like Pat Robertson and James Dobson. (Apologies if this has been done already, but I needed to get this off my chest)
So imagine my delight when I hear that the mighty and feared Christian Coaltion is barely keeping its head above water. I did a little research this afternoon (I know I should be working!)and I have found out quite a bit this formidable organisation.
The leader of the CC in Oregon has stepped down because of alleged sexual misconduct with members of his own family. As a lifelong Christian, these were NOT the family values I was taught. Also, after a record $26 million revenue in 1996, revenue has dipped to $1.3 million. What about the back rents owed, the lawsuits and the settlement that had to be paid to black employees? Read about it here http://www.vheadline.com/readnews.asp?id=46326
Why have people fallen out of love with the CC? Is it because Pat Robertson is mental? I know had I lost a loved one in anyone of the natural disasters that have occured over the last few months, I'd be plenty pissed that someone was blaming it on gays, lesbians and other assorted sins. Is it because now that the CC got the government they wanted to lustily, they are a toothless tiger now? Incidentally, I looked up Pat Robertson on Wikipedia, and boy, some life he led! You all probably know it but give it a whirl if you have time.
Maybe it's just that we true Christians are tired of all of this Bible-bashing nonsense. Perhaps us true Christians, you know, the ones that believe in the Sermon on the Mount, social justice, peace and all that are fed up with all the fire and brimstone. Perhaps those of us that are true Christians seek solace in our faiths because we seek comfort and peace.
I think it's high time we reclaim our faith from the Christo-fascists. We all know that if Jesus were around today, He'd want none of this that is currently being associated with His name. As folk singer Rory Macleod said in his fantastic song What would Jesus Do, Jesus would be thrown in jail for being an aggravating Jew. These same people that praise His name and claim to spread His word, would be the same ones persecuting Him.
