According to the Sunday Times British forces are making a secret deal to leave parts of Afghanistan if the Taliban do the same.
Only yesterday a good friend was telling me about conditions in Afghanistan as related by his just returned brother (A frontline British officer). He sais that there is a full scale war going on and the troops are having a hard time holding on and maintaining there supply lines. At some points water has been so scarce that soldiers have been reduced to drinking their own urine. It sounds really grim.

In the light of this the fact that deals are being struck suggests that both sides want a respite from the madness. How long before these kind of local truces spread to Iraq with commanders on the ground seeing the logic of ending pointless conflict?
