"Know Thy Enemy"?
We might do well to take a look at the other side of the aisle, and its reaction to the Foley scandal.
Take a look at the comments posted in response to the only post on RedState dealing with the issue.
About one-third to one-half of the posters on the right there see the right thing to do--and one distinguished himself with the comment, "Retaining power would not justify holding on to scum like this." (Kudos, sir!)
However, the remainder of those posting seem to be ruled by other impulses, and give vent to other feelings. And it is their remarks which are both chilling and telling:
They loudly declaim:
[DEEEEEEP breath here]
That Foley was a RINO [Republican In Name Only]; that instead we should be focusing our ire on Barney Frank and Gerry Sudds; that we shouldn't forget Clinton/Lewinsky; that the liberal media is bad for breaking this story so close to the election; that it wasn't as if Foley was actually having sex with these pages; that the age of consent is 16 in most states; that perjury wasn't involved; that the Democrats have been protecting Foley for years because they counted on his liberal/moderate leanings, but threw him under the bus now because they need his seat; that Democrats embrace their party's perverts and criminals, while Republicans swiftly show their own the door; that Jefferson took bribes; that it is not the duty of the Republican Party to scrutinize their candidates' backgrounds but merely the duty of the voters'; that Jim Webb wrote a book full of the N-word; that Foley did the right thing by apologizing and resigning, a "right thing" which Democrats never do; that until full context of the e-mails is given, the possibility exists that Foley may have been set up; that simply reworking the House Page Program to exclude minors would alleviate all worries about this sort of thing; that Hastert and the GOP House leadership may have known about the e-mails, but certainly not the IMs; that Democrats schtup everything of every age that moves, but that the parents are happy to sacrifice their children for political gain;
... and, of course, that all gays are scum.
Here we see the continued aversion to responsibility so evident in the workings of this Administration, writ large upon the canvas of the feelings of their supporters.
