After Chairman Barton callously denied consideration of the Combating Autism Act of 2006, our campaign was flooded with emails and pledges of support in all ways possible from Republicans and Democrats alike. This sends a clear message - this is not a political issue, it is about healthcare for children.
See what voters are saying:
Mr. Harris,
I am a republican but I am ashamed that your opponent calls himself one too.
His refusal to have a vote on the Combat Autism act is shocking and
disgusting. I am a life long republican but will be contributing to your
campaign. Mr. Barton must be removed from office at all costs. Any man that
plays political football with my child and the millions of children of this
country that suffer with Autism Spectrum Disorders is a sad, sad human being.
I am the Virginia Campaign Captain for the Combat Autism act and would be
willing to do commercials or radio spots supporting your candidacy. My
phone number is (number) please call and let me know how I can support
you. Mr. Barton needs to know he has gone too far and needs to be shown the
door.

Dear Mr. Harris,
I just wanted to thank you for your blog posting regarding the Combating
Autism Act. My son (name) was diagnosed at the age of 27 months. We live in
the state of Louisiana.
I am interested in what Joe Barton is doing primarily because his actions
have directly impacted (name)...who lives in Louisiana. In fact, his actions
have direct implications for 1.5 Million Americans living with autism today
and truth be known, if that funding that comes from this bill finds even one
answer for children with autism, his actions are directly impacting the
lives of children and adults with autism globally.
That is incredible to me.
Once again, I thank you for your attention to this issue. Good luck with
your campaign.

In case you didn't catch this on MSNBC/Imus in the morning. Host Don Imus said, twice, "Joe Barton is a creep!" today October 3, 2006, 7:15 Central, on MSNBC. Imus's specific complaint has to do with Barton blocking
consideration of legislation on Autism Prevention that had passed the Senate unanimously.
Good luck.

The voters in the district are outraged and so are other people from across the United States. Joe Barton has put his own legislative agenda ahead of hundreds of thousands of children nationwide, despite the unanimous support in the Senate. He refused the bill because it contained NIH provisions and environmental research language (go figure... Joe Barton against the environment).
The Autism community is outraged and they want answers. Please join their
fight and get your "Representatives" (or in Barton's case, lack thereof) to move this Act along.
It's time to fight back.
