ABC News:
Bush 41 Warns of "Ghastly" Future Under "Wild Democrats"
ABC contributor Michelle Dubert reports: While campaigning for Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) in the Philadelphia suburbs today, former President George H.W. Bush warned of a "ghastly" future for his son and other Americans if "wild Democrats" take over Congress.
"I would hate to think what Arlen's life would be like, what Rick's life would be like, and what my son's life would be like if we lose control of the Congress," said former President George Bush in a reference to Pennsylvania's two Republican Senators. "If we have some of these wild Democrats in charge of these committees, it will be a ghastly thing for our country."
"They'd be pushing through all kinds of crazy legislation," he added, "And they would be issuing the subpoenas, dragging people in just to be getting headlines."
The former President made his remarks at a Santorum fundraiser at a private residence in Gladwyne, PA that was also attended by Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA).
From the
American Heritage® Dictionary
ghastly (ghast·ly)
1. Inspiring shock, revulsion, or horror by or as if by suggesting death; terrifying.
2. Suggestive of or resembling ghosts.
3. Extremely unpleasant or bad.
4. Very serious or great: a ghastly error.
I think that "ghastly" is a word that George H.W. Bush should not be allowed to use. At all. There is no doubt that he has more than a passing familiarity with the meaning of the word, and its application. He was, after all, the Director of the CIA when many of the atrocities attributed to the CIA occured in Angola, El Salvador, Nicaragua, South Africa and God only knows where else. These atrocities were well documented by "Church Committee" reports and subsequent FOIA releases. He was the CIA Director during the Letelier-Moffitt murders and the Condor conspiracy, as documented last year by Tom Hayden. The CIA involvement in other Pinochet crimes are also documented. These are just a few of the things that we know about the ghastly crimes of Ford/Kissinger/Bush/et.al.
George H.W. Bush should have learned about "ghastly" activities from his father, Prescott Bush. As a Director of Union Banking Corporation (UBC), he was implicated with others in business dealings and support of Nazi German banking operations. As a consequence of their actions, the U.S. government ordered the seizure of UBC in October 1942. When the UBC operations were dissolved in 1951, his one share was reported to have been worth $1,500,000. According to the Guardian, late US senator was a director and shareholder of other companies that profited from their involvement with the financial backers of Nazi Germany that were also seized.
Bush the Elder also had opportunities to learn about "ghastly" as a member of "Skull and Bones." The exclusive Yale club meets in "The Tomb," and is reported to use a set of Hitler's silverware while dining in the tomb. A former member reported that "Geronimo's skull and other remains were taken from the leader's burial site and deposited at the Skull and Bones headquarters." The members call themselves "Knights," and call everyone else in the world "barbarians".
I have to disagree with our former president.
What would be "ghastly" is if the Democrats don't get control of committees that could issue subpoenas and drag people in to account for their actions. It would be "ghastly" if the Democrats don't repeal the legislation that The Baltimore Chronicle describes as "giving the president and his agents the power to capture, torture and imprison forever anyone - American citizens included - whom they arbitrarily decide is an 'enemy combatant'." They compared the legislation to Enabling Act passed by the German Reichstag in March 1933. I think it's worse than that; it is more like the 1941 Nacht und Nebel directive by Hitler. It would be "ghastly" if the Democrats don't take control of at least one house of Congress and restore some measure of control over the "Wild Republicans."
The "Ghastly" Future I fear is one where the Republicans retain control of Congress, and our country continues it's precipitous slide into oblivion.
